The Power of Probiotic Tea

The Power of Probiotic Tea
Updated on February 18, 2021

Consuming healthy foods and beverages plays a key role in digestion and in maintaining daily wellness. Sharing this philosophy, our herbalists created two delicious probiotic teas to provide you a daily cup of digestive support. These two organic, caffeine-free herbal teas tap into the digestive support of probiotics while delivering the comforting flavors of cinnamon, cardamom and ginger in our Dandelion Chai Probiotic tea and a refreshing zip through our Peppermint Delight Probiotic® tea.

Can Probiotics Survive Heat?

To make our tea, we use a shelf-stable and heat-tolerant probiotic called Bacillus coagulans in spore form. The spores are only activated when they find the right combination of temperature, pH and pressure found in the gut. This makes it a perfect type of probiotic for our teas because it is not harmed during the steeping process. It grows optimally at temperatures of 50-55 degrees Celsius (approximately 130 degrees Fahrenheit). The spores will remain dormant at water boiling temperature, not killed, and grow again when the conditions are right for them in the gut.

Will the Probiotics Make It Through the Tea Bag?

Yes! Our team tested the infusion and found that the spores are able to penetrate the filter paper. Between this and the shelf-stable, heat-tolerant nature of the spores of this strain, you can rest assured that our probiotic teas will be a tasty addition to your digestive health routine.

Organic Peppermint Delight Probiotic
Dandelion Chai Probiotic tea: Using delicious dandelion root from some of our favorite organic farms, we made this caffeine-free tea to enjoy any time of day. Combined with tasty spices like cardamom, cinnamon and ginger, and the digestive support of a probiotic, this chai-inspired tea is sure to spice up your daily wellness routine. Enjoy it on its own or make it more indulgent with a sweetener and a splash of milk of your choice. Go a step further and zip your frother wand through it for a quick latte experience!

Peppermint Delight Probiotic tea: Like a breath of fresh air, a cup of peppermint tea can uplift and soothe us when we need it most. Tapping into this time-honored tradition, we blended our aromatic, menthol-rich peppermint with its milder herbal cousins, spearmint and lemon balm, for balanced minty flavor. Minty, earthy and slightly sweet, with the added bonus of a probiotic to support healthy digestion, our Peppermint Delight Probiotic tea is delicious at any time of day.

Digestion is the Origin of Good Health

Naturopaths and herbalists believe that cultivating good gut health helps maintain a healthy digestive system, as well as a healthy body. In addition to delivering nutrients to the body, the gut functions as “the second brain” and also accounts for 80% of our immune system, which is why a healthy digestive system is so intricately connected to our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. It’s not surprising, then, that the word ‘probiotic’ stems from the compound of Latin and Greek, “for life.”

Whether enjoyed as your hot morning cuppa, a before- or after-meal companion, or as a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up, our probiotic teas delight the senses while supporting digestive health. Experience for yourself how good daily wellness can taste and put the wind back in your sails.
