This is a full-time position for a laboratory professional. This position will be responsible for 1) executing all in-house microbiological testing required for QC release of incoming ingredients and finished products, 2) maintaining the environmental monitoring program, and 3) completing projects that may be related to process improvement, FDA compliance, document review/creation, or data gathering.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • This position will be responsible for maintaining the microbiology lab and overseeing training of new personnel.
  • Performing microbiological testing required for QC release, maintaining an in-house environmental monitoring program, validating and maintaining new instruments, communicating effectively with other departments to provide information and services in a timely manner, maintaining quality control procedures specific to the micro lab, completing NCMRs as needed, participates in special projects and new testing development.
  • Assists in quality and lab tasks as needed, this includes but is not limited to: identity by sensory, sampling of materials, evaluating packaging components, stickering materials, water testing, and communication with external laboratories.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 year’s experience working in an FDA regulated microbiology laboratory.
  • Must have 1-year experience working with an environmental monitoring program.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of how to conduct lab tests and use lab equipment and an understanding of laws and regulations related to the dietary supplement industry.
  • College degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry or related field.
  • Good Documentation Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, Good Manufacturing Practices; Advanced Microbiology skills, Basic math skills –ability to perform basic calculations and unit conversions; Computer skills – Microsoft Suite.
  • Must be fluent in English, bilingual in Spanish helpful.
  • The job setting is in a manufacturing facility and offsite warehouse. All employees entering the manufacturing floor must have long pants, closed toe shoes, and no jewelry. Primarily he/she will be located in the laboratory. Occasionally he/she may be asked to attend meetings/trainings at SOMO.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40-50 lbs. Must be able to push/pull up to 20 lbs of force. At times, be able to bend and work with hands above shoulder level. Must be able to be on his/her feet for up to 5 hours.
  • He/She must be able to communicate effectively with all members of the lab staff.
  • As needed, he/she may have to travel between our headquarters in Rohnert Park and the manufacturing facility.
