Part of the thistle family, Burdock has many common names including hitchhiker plant and beggar’s buttons, due to its Velcro-like structures that attach to the clothing of passersby. Native to the Old World, several species have been widely introduced worldwide.
With an enjoyably rooty, sweet and slightly bitter taste, burdock is one of the herbs specifically indicated to promote healthy kidneys.* We find it to be an important, albeit less common, herb for the tea shelf.
